where WE STARTED
In 1991, Barbara O’Toole founded Advanced Environmental Concepts (AEC) with one big goal — to close the gap between acoustics, construction, and design. With a background in acoustical engineering, Barbara recognized a recurring challenge in the industry: architects, designers, engineers, and contractors all approached acoustic needs from different perspectives – and project teams weren’t always speaking the same language. Architects prioritized functional design, Acousticians cared about performance, and General Contractors emphasized speed and affordability.
So, she asked the question that started it all:
How can we deliver a product that satisfies all parties involved?
That question became the foundation of AEC — a company built to align design intent, technical performance, and practical construction.

More than three decades later, AEC has become the trusted interiors partner for architects, designers, and builders across the state of Texas and beyond. What began as a mission to solve acoustic challenges has evolved into a company known for its specialty product installation, custom fabrication, and collaborative approach. Today, our work spans window treatments, acoustic solutions, custom seating, and one-of-a kind feature elements.
