The architect wanted an impactful feature using blue and green cotton rope in the design. Here’s what we know about cotton rope: it’s tricky to work with! There is A LOT of stretch in cotton rope. To get it taut requires A LOT of torque, putting A LOT of stress on all the anchor and connection points. Speaking of all that stress on the anchor points... we found that the rope holds best at the end connections, with knot and steel straps. All other methods for securing the rope will slip right out of the anchor, leaving a tangled mess behind. Furthermore, the cut ends of cotton rope will fray A LOT and cannot be fused by heating, so we had to find another way to keep those ends nice and neat. Knowing the tricks of working with different types of rope material will help make your rope art feature go A LOT more smoothly.
